(Also it's a free update for anyone who had Rome II, or whoever buys an old disc copy of Rome II even now. Emperor Edition is a rerelease that accompanied the Patch 15 Major Overhaul, rather than a Game of the Year edition. In general, I think gaming is moving away from the 'all-in-one' model, and towards 'a la carte' gaming, where you have a lot of options for what content to choose, and buy only the ones you specifically want.Īs for Emperor Edition, it does exactly what it's supposed to. The sheer quantity of post release content in Rome 2 and all main Total Wars since is I think one of the reasons we're unlikely to see a 'contains all content' edition for many years, and more likely to see more bundles like Rome 2's Spartan Edition and Caesar Edition, Attila's Tyrants and Kings Edition, and Warhammer 1's Dark Gods Edition, which each contain the game and some of the DLC, but not all.īlood & Gore DLC also creates an issue, because it basically can't be included in an edition like that without increasing the rating, but without it people would, inevitably, complain that it doesn't contain all the DLC. And people would, inevitably, complain about it. Trouble is to do an edition like that and have an even remotely representative price for the sheer amount of content that entails (78 playable factions and hundreds of non-playable factions across 7 campaigns, not including Prologue,) it would likely need a higher than average price.
